Step Into Language

About

We know the infant and toddler are in their Sensitive Period for Language, so this is an "easy sell". Sing anything and you'll soon feel like the Pied Piper, toddlers following you everywhere. They want to join the party! So we begin to find little words to teach, familiar words as our scaffolding, we find that teaching many simple verbs & nouns is both fun and a nice "mid day workout". So we "hop, hop, hop, hop, hop, hop; hop, hop, hop, hop, hop, stop. " then we "turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn; turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, stop.", then " run, run, run, " etc. ....... I marvel at how this simple game must just show the toddlers how much control they actually have over their bodies.... I see a huge change after they begin to enjoy this simple outdoor game. Language just changes things, it's a different route. Talking about climbing a tree is so different, and actually can be as exciting as the actual climb. Language is a creative tool, as well as a reporting one. Once the child realizes how much the words in the songs, in the books, words in everything tell us EVERYthing! Then they suddenly begin to listen 24/7, and their vocabulary and intellect really develop! It comes from within, we just give them quality literature, useful information, and stimulating music to listen, they are compelled do it for their own development. We don't interfere much, just encourage the joy and fun in trying new things, discovering new things! :)
