About the event
Through Her work with Institutionalized Children Maria Montessori developed many of the sensorial materials and exercises which are seen in Montessori Schools today. She did not work alone in this, as she exchanged ideas with Itard and Seguin who were doing realated work. In 1917 Montessori published The Discovery of the Child, which introduces us to a New way of viewing and respecting the work of the child. These Institutionalized children eventually surpassed the academic levels of 'normal' school children, and Montessori gained recognition. She was assigned to open the first Children's House in the slum area of San Lorenzo, Rome in 1904, which is has become the model for her Primary (3-6 yr old) schools worldwide.
